1. Please, tell us a little about yourself and your designs.
My name is Jennifer and I live in Sweden with my family of 2 kids, a husband, and 2 cats.
You will always find me with a hook and some yarn in my hands.
I love making cute patterns that hopefully put a smile on people’s faces.
2. How long have you been crocheting?
I started when I was about 10 years old. My grandmother thought me. She is left-handed and I
am right-handed, so it was a bit tricky in the beginning!
I started with amigurumi 12 years ago.
3. Why crochet? What is it that interests you?
I love how it always gets me relaxed, I am a very anxious person and crochet always
calms me down.
4. Where do you usually get inspiration for your designs?
I find inspiration in many things. I can be inspired by an orange fruit and think about orange with
some eyes and a happy smile would be cute!
5. Tell us about your happiest moments since you became an amigurumi designer?
Oh, it must be right now actually! I am in the process of writing a book that will be out
next year. It is super exciting!
6. What is the most struggle that you have faced during your design career?
Besides all the boring stuff like bookkeeping, I think it is when people steal my patterns
and share them for free. I think a lot of us pattern makers are having that problem and it
is just so sad. People do not seem to care about copyright rules and the fact that it takes
a long time to make a crochet pattern. When it happened in the beginning, I thought
many times that I should just stop making patterns.
7. How did you start to be a professional designer and treat the hobby as a business?
It has taken many years, I was a registered nurse and had been working halftime as that
and the rest with my crochet business. Since about a year ago I have worked full time
with my business and I love to be able to live out my creative side, and to be my own
boss is awesome!
8. What is your strategy to grow a design business? How did you start to promote yourself
and which platform?
I started with Instagram, and it is still my main platform for reaching out to people.
9. I saw that you have tons of sales on Etsy and other sales platforms, what you think is the main factor that leads to your success today?
Oh, I really do not know! I do most of my promotions on Instagram, so I guess it helps to
have a following there, most of my sales on Etsy comes through people scrolling my
10. You are famous right now, but I know that it would be a long story behind with all the
effort and of course, luck! What is your advice for people who want to be a designer and
live with a career?
I’m I famous?! I wish so. Yes, the story is long. It all started in 2015 when I was on
maternity leave with my youngest son. I started my Instagram account and uploaded
some of my amigurumi. In the beginning, not much happened but after a while, I got
requests for sharing my crochet patterns. I then started my Etsy shop about a year later.
My advice is to have fun with it and believe in yourself! Do not beat yourself down. It
takes time. It took me many years to find the courage to quit my day job.
Keep posting your makes on social media and do not compare yourself to others!
